Follow the Sapper

Australian Army engineers - the sappers - have provided an significant range of of support to both combat operations and peacetime engineer work. 1 Field Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers (1 FD SQN RAE) has a remarkable history of contributing to combat operations and peacetime engineering work commencing with the Boer War of 1899-1902. Check out our "History Section" for a mix of interesting, and at times, surprising information on the organisation and development of Australia's Army Engineers.

Reunion 2019

Every two years 1 FD SQN RAE Association organises a reunion dinner and memorial service. Any person who served in 1 FD SQN RAE and its associated sub-units such as the RAE Support Squadron/Troop and RAEME Workshops are invited to attend, together with their partner.

On 13 May 2018, the Corps of Royal Australian Engineers, together with the Corps Banners and Guidons of 1RAR, 3RAR, Cavalry, Armoured and Artillery received the highest award for extraordinary courage on the battlefield from the Chief of the Army. This award is recognition of every unit that fought at the battles of FSPB Coral and Balmoral from 12 May to 6 June 1968. The 1st Field Squadron Group fought on the front line against determined human-wave attacks and repulsed them, as did our brothers in the infantry, armour and artillery.

The Unit Citation for Gallantry (UCG) was issued to our Coral/Balmoral veterans by way of a ribbon mailed to them through the post. We intend to show these Sappers our recognition for what they achieved for the Corps by conducting a ribbon ceremony during the dinner. Please come along and be a part of history-in-the-making.

In addition, we will be honouring the Supreme Sacrifice of every Sapper lost to conflicts since 1945 at the Memorial Service in the park adjacent to the Twin Towns Services Club commencing at 1600hrs Saturday 24 August 2018.
